GIGABYTE Z87X-OC motherboard, ‘Editor’s Choice’ at TweakTown

Veteran motherboard reviewer Shawn Baxter at TweakTown recently got his hands on our new overclocking motherboard, the GIGABYTE Z87X-OC. Of course we’re really pleased to see Shawn give us his Editor’s Choice Award, scoring really highly in terms of raw performance and value for money. However, it was also really interesting to see Shawn’s take on the OC board, from the perspective of middle of the road DIY PC enthusiast, not as an extreme overclocker.

The OC board could, in some ways be a little intimidating to a casual DIYer, simply because HiCookie’s design is absolutely crammed with features and technologies that cater for the extreme overclocker. I know from experience that features like OC Ignition, OC brace, OC Tag etc can be a little difficult to explain to people unfamiliar with the darker arts of overclocking. Which is why is great to hear Shawn explain that regardless of its overclocking specific features, the GIGABYTE Z87X-OC is good choice for anyone looking for real performance.

“…you don't need to be some LN2 touting overclocking extremist to really take advantage of what GIGABYTE is offering in this board. Instead you just need to be someone who wants a quality motherboard that offers some excellent performance out of the box.”

slipperyskip reveals new ‘Flightline’ project based on GIGABYTE H77TN board

Jeffrey Stephenson, or slipperyskip as he prefers to be known on the Internet, is the master craftsman of PC case modding. In fact Jeffrey goes way beyond case modding, actually building from scratch art deco inspired creations that use the highest quality materials including high-grade timber.

His la test creation is based around the GIGABYTE H77TN motherboard, an Intel H77 based board that conforms to the latest Thin Mini-ITX form factor from Intel. Originally designed for making All-in-One PC designs. Jeffrey’s Flightline project, although still in the early stages right now, is clearly taking advantage of the thinner form factor board. It’ll be interesting to see the finished project.

MythBusters style “kick ass gaming PC 2013” video, check it out!

Tested.com is a pretty cool website with lots of interesting gadgets, mods and all sort of other craziness you would expect from Mysthbusters starts Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage and their tested.com crew. In this video Will, Norm and Loyd go over a kick-ass gaming PC for 2013 back in March.

It’s probably not a bad idea to look into a replacement board for the GIGABYTE Z77N-WiFi they recommended with the new 1150 socket Z87N-WiFi. Not a great deal of difference between boards other than support for new Intel Haswell CPUs.

GIGABYTE on track for 20 million motherboards sold in 2013

 

Digitimes.com published a piece earlier this week outlining our sales figures for Q2 2013. The news is pretty good folks - Looks like we’re well on target to hit 20 million units shipped by the end of 2013, our highest annual sales total…

“Gigabyte shipped 4.8 million motherboards in the second quarter of 2013, resulting in shipments of 9.9 million units for the first half of the year, the sources indicated. The company is expected to ship more than 10 million motherboards in the second half of 2013, leading to at least 20 million units for the whole year, the sources said.”

Obviously this is excellent news, proving not only that we’re doing a decent job of fighting our corner in a highly competitive market segment, but that the PC market as a whole is humming along nicely.

Any DIY PC plans this weekend, looks like EK cooling guys have some ideas!

Weekend can’t come soon enough this week I think. I wonder how many of you are planning to do some PC DIY work or any DIY tinkering in the dungeon for that matter!

I noticed that EK Cooling Solutions has an interesting new product with RAM heatsinks that you mount on bare memory modules and adapters to attach any type of cooling solution you want including watercooling or peltier cooling. You could perhaps even use single stage refrigeration though that would probably make things a bit too frosty for a normal system. This should give some serious overclocking ability with some decent RAM strapped to it.

What better way to pimp the new RAM heatsinks but to use it on the new GIGABYTE Z87X-OC motherboard I say! Cool shot there from EK guys…

Talk about overclocking on GIGABYTE Z87X-OC, I’ve noticed a couple of sweet Haswell (4X CPU) world records on the board. One was from fatboynotsoslim from Australia who retook his Intel XTU (global) world record yesterday and second one was done by Dhenzjhen on Cinebench (4xCPU category WR).
