X58-OC makes hardcore OC Aussies happy – PC Power Play Magazine

Australian print magazine PC Power Play recently published a review of our GIGABYTE X58-OC motherboard, the world’s first high-end motherboard designed specifically for hardcore overclockers. IMG_0515Reviewer Matt Wilson had this to say about the built-in overclocking features and the how the boards target market will appreciate the overclocking potential that lies within:

After warm up runs, we gave the OC-Touch feature a work through, upping the BLCK frequency a good chunk and managing to score a healthy 4.73 GHz overclock (225x21)….The reason this board can overclock further (on air) than other boards we have had in the past is due to voltage stability. Instead of pumping through higher voltages to iron out any ripples, this power delivery system manages to deliver clean power to the CPU, therefore lowering the overall voltage required. We aren’t talking insane levels here, but you’d be surprised how much extra heat 0.06v can produce when you are already pushing 85C on an air cooler.

..for that 1% of hardcore overclockers, this board is definitely the best choice you’ve got. Make the decision: genuine gaming comfort, or simple overclocking insanity?

As a print magazine, of course we’re unable to supply a URl. However Australians can no doubt grab a copy at their local newsagent.

Hi Tech Legion give GIGABYTE 990FXA-UD5 a Gold Rating

GA-990FXA-UD5-

George Cella-Cella on Hi Tech Legion has just finished his review of our AMD Bulldozer-ready GIGABYTE 900 series 990FXA-UD5 motherboard, and by all accounts he is mightily impressed, giving it their highest Hi Tech Legion Gold Award.

“There is no disputing that the Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5 is an absolute top of the line motherboard. The GA-990FXA-UD5 is packed with features, all of which work absolutely flawlessly. Build on the GA-990FXA-UD5 is solid, with great finish and attention to detail. The included Easy Tune 6 utility works extremely well as an overclocking utility for the novice, as well as being a very capable hardware monitor and fan speed controller. With the Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5, you get an extremely capable and feature rich motherboard, all wrapped in one very attractive sleek black package. The GA-990FXA-UD5 is highly recommended.” – HiTechLegion

George has also published an unboxing video that covers the packaging and key features of the 990FXA-UD5 board in some detail. Check it out below.

We’re really happy that George has taken the time to explore and benchmark what is surely one of the most complete and full-featured AMD platform motherboards that Gigabyte has ever done. I’m convinced also that most AMD DIYers will, like ourselves, be even more excited at the prospect of putting this board through its paces packing AMD’s forthcoming FX processors. Here’s hoping they really gives us some Bulldozing performance level to shout about.

Tech Report examine AMD’s Llano on GIGABYTE A75M-UD2H

socket-fm1

Here’s a great in depth article on the new A-Series APUs from AMD. Writing for TechReport.com, Scott Wasson compares these new APUs, codenamed Llano, to previous AMD platforms as well as Intel’s Sandy Bridge and Gulftown offerings. It’s an interesting read that examines the pros and cons of AMD’s Fusion architecture which places more emphasis on the graphics element than we’ve seen in the past. From a strictly Gigabyte perspective, we were also quite flattered to see that Tech Report based a lot of their testing and benchmarks on GIGABYTE boards.

For example Intel X58 Gulftown tests were performed on our X58A-UD5 board, AMD 800 series tests used the Gigabyte 890GPA-UD3H while for the new AMD A8-3850 Tech Report selected the Gigabyte A75M-UD2H.

Bit-tech take a tour of our motherboard factory

Earlier this month I was fortunate enough to join Paul Goodhead from bit-tech.com on a tour of our GIGABYTE motherboard factory out in Taipei County, and what an eye opening experience it was. Motherboards have come a long way in the last few decades, adding more and more features with improvements to durability and longevity, so much so that motherboard manufacturing now involves bleeding-edge technology and manufacturing processes. Nowhere is this more true than at our Nan-Ping factory just outside Taipei in Northern Taiwan where GIGABYTE’s top tier motherboards products are manufactured, thoroughly tested and then packaged ready to be shipped off to DIY PC retailers around the globe.

Paul’s written a great article which details every step of the process with lots of photos of the production line itself. If you’ve ever wondered just how a motherboard is created, check out the article for yourself. Here are some images to whet your appetite:gigabyte-s-28gigabyte-s-14

Did you know?

GIGABYTE is the only DIY PC motherboard manufacturer that still has a manufactures in Taiwan. This gives us the edge in a number of areas. For example it means that top-tier motherboards products that showcase new technologies and bleeding edge features can be thoroughly honed, tuned and debugged by a relatively small, yet highly capable team of experts that have been together for many years. Believe me when I say that is virtually impossible to replicate in China and is one of our core strengths as a company. Also, when labor shortages hit production lines in Mainland China, our Taiwan factory can help absorb up to 40% production. While on the factory tour I was also reminded that we make every effort to make sure that all boards are tested to the limit, using the most stringent quality control procedures that actually help reduce our RMA rates.
